Older Vehicles Pay More Licence Fees
The licence fees of more than 30,000 commercial vehicles may increase under a proposal that aims to encourage the replacement of polluting vehicles older than 15 years, according to the environment watchdog. This new rule would affect all types of commercial vehicles regardless of their fuel types and emission standards. Environmental Protection Department officials gave no figures on the fee increase they might be considering to be enough to deter the continued use of old vehicles. The proposal that should be implemented in 2010 is opposed by industry leaders who argue that it would increase their members’ burden in an already difficult economic era.
